Primary layout (iRacing): Daytona International Speedway - Road Course (3.56 mi / 5.73 km, clockwise) — full infield + oval configuration used for IMSA-style sprint and endurance content. The lap links a heavy-brake Turn 1 entry, low-speed traction zones at the International Horseshoe and West Horseshoe, then high-speed commitment through the Bus Stop to the banking run home.

Daytona rewards straight-line speed and draft management, but race results are usually decided by infield exits and traffic judgement. In iRacing officials, the combination of multiclass closure rates and strict off-track calls in the Bus Stop means one rushed decision can cost both lap time and incident points.

Why This Track Is Difficult

Two track personalities: You swap between low-drag oval pace and stop-start infield precision every lap. Cars set up for top speed can feel nervous under heavy infield braking.

Closing-speed traps: Draft effects into Turn 1 and Bus Stop create huge speed deltas, especially in multiclass. Late or reactive moves frequently cause chain incidents.

Exit-driven lap time: Horseshoe and Bus Stop exits feed long acceleration zones. Entry heroics without exit control lose more time than they gain.

Track limits and kerbs: Over-attacking Bus Stop kerbs or cutting lines for a pass can trigger invalidations/incident count quickly.

Best Car Classes for This Track

GT3 / GTE: Strong baseline class for Daytona officials. Success comes from stable brake release into Turn 1 and disciplined traction out of Horseshoe and Bus Stop.

LMP2 / prototypes: Excellent top speed and braking power but highest traffic-risk class. You must complete moves before braking zones, not inside them.

GT4 / TCR / slower GT: More momentum-sensitive; infield line quality is critical. Defending too aggressively often hurts your next straight more than the overtake itself.

Mazda / lower-power road: Draft and corner exit shape races. Clean infield rhythm beats isolated late-brake attempts.

When to back out: If overlap is not established before braking commitment, lift, reset, and attack the next straight.
