Canadian Tire Motorsport Park iRacing Track Guide
Overview
Primary layout (iRacing): Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – Grand Prix (formerly Mosport) — the full 3.957 km (2.459 mi) clockwise road course with 10 turns and dramatic elevation change through wooded sandhill country east of Toronto. Only ten corners, but most are fast, blind, or off-camber: a downhill Turn 1, the cresting double-apex Clayton Corner, deceptive Quebec Corner, flat-out Turn 4 under the bridge, the signature double-apex Moss Corner hairpin, the long Andretti Straightaway, commitment through The Esses (Turns 8–9), and the critical White's Corner exit onto the front straight. Official sessions range from GT3 and GT4 to prototypes and open-wheel; entry speed into Turns 2, 4, and 8 separates the grid more than one heroic late brake at Moss.
Track map
Why This Track Is Difficult
Blind crests: Clayton Corner, Moss Corner, and The Esses hide the track until you are committed—lifting mid-corner costs seconds you never recover. Elevation: Turn 1 drops away under braking; Turn 2 crests with the car light; Moss climbs into 5A then drops at 5B—each transition punishes abrupt inputs. Off-camber traps: Quebec Corner and Turn 4 push the car off-line if you apex early or add steering when the rear is unsettled. Moss Corner complexity: The double-apex hairpin (5A/5B) is the hardest braking zone and the main traction checkpoint onto Andretti Straightaway. The Esses: Turn 8 is the second-fastest corner on the lap after Turn 4—overcook entry speed and you run out of room before Turn 9. White's Corner exit: Sets top speed for the full front straight; a slide here leaves you defenceless into Turn 1 next lap. Track limits: iRacing enforcement bites on Moss and White's exits; one deleted lap hurts more than one lost position in officials.
Best Car Classes for This Track
GT3 / GTE-style: Bread-and-butter CTMP car. Balance enough rear stability for Turn 4 and The Esses with traction for Moss and White's exits. Weakness: prototype closing speeds if you defend too late on Andretti Straightaway.
LMP2 / prototypes: Entry speed through Turn 4 and Turn 8 dominates. Must brake earlier behind GTs at Moss; strength is safe passes when slower cars leave room before the braking boards.
GT4 / slower GT: Often need a visible lift through Turn 4 and a more conservative Esses entry. Focus on rhythm and legal exits—chasing GT3 flat lines without the grip causes spins and limit violations.
MX-5 / lower licence content: Clayton and Moss remain the main chess—patience beats heroics. Short-shift Moss and White's exits if the rear steps on worn tyres.
Sector and Corner Guide
Boards and gears are typical GT3 references—validate every marker in your car and with iRacing's telemetry. Add invalidation risk notes where limits bite in official racing.
Turn 1
Type: Long-radius right off the front straight; downhill under braking. Gear: 3rd–4th. Passing: Lap 1, restarts, pit-out merges—close to the grid so packs arrive together.
Braking: Brake as the track drops into the corner—carry braking over the crest to stabilise the car. Trail into a late apex just past the right-side kerb.
Line: Track out left; let the car drift right to set up Clayton Corner. Avoid the exit turtles and marbles on the outside slope.
Invalidation risk: Moderate on wide exit—stay legal before attacking Turn 2.
Common mistake: Abrupt brake release over the crest; early apex that compromises Clayton entry; fighting three-wide on lap one when survival pays more.
Turn 2 – Clayton Corner
Type: Blind downhill right; classic double-apex. Gear: 3rd–4th. Passing: Secondary zone if you have inside momentum from Turn 1.
Technique: Smooth brake release over the ridge—the car gets light at the crest. First apex near the white line; relax the wheel, let the car settle, then power to a very late second apex using every inch of pavement.
Exit priority: Clean track-out avoids the outside drop-off; sets minimum speed up the hill toward Quebec Corner.
Invalidation risk: Low on asphalt—two wheels off the outside is a recovery nightmare in the sim and in real life.
Common mistake: Lifting when the car goes light at the crest—the most common CTMP incident corner.
Turn 3 – Quebec Corner
Type: Off-camber right with deceptive entry. Gear: 3rd–4th. Passing: Possible with genuine overlap from Clayton—high risk.
Braking: Trail brake from slightly off the left edge; avoid the very end of the brake zone hard left where the slope changes can upset ABS.
Apex: Deep entry, slow steer to apex just beyond the protruding kerb—early apex bounces you off the curb and left off track.
Exit: Track out at the end of left kerbing; move across for Turn 4 approach.
Invalidation risk: Moderate—inside cuts and early apex runoff to the left.
Common mistake: Treating it like a standard right-hander; fighting understeer with more steering instead of a deeper entry line.
Turn 4
Type: Blind, fast left under the bridge—fastest turn on the lap. Gear: 4th–5th (GT3). Passing: Rare—too fast for side-by-side.
Technique: Start from two-thirds track width, not the far right. Settle the car before the bridge; keep foot in it if grip allows—many cars need only a breathe, not a full lift.
Line: Exit parallel to the left edge; full throttle down the hill toward Moss braking zone.
Invalidation risk: Running wide right where off-camber sucks the car off—common quali trap.
Common mistake: Letting the car drift right mid-corner; lifting when a stable throttle would carry speed to Moss.
Turn 5 – Moss Corner (5A / 5B)
Type: Double-apex hairpin—signature CTMP corner. Gear: 2nd–3rd. Passing: Primary braking zone after Turn 1; inside at 5B is a classic race move.
Braking: Hardest braking point on the lap—begin before the hill bottom; use the uphill into 5A to help slow. Turn in under braking and decelerate as far up the hill as grip allows.
5A / 5B: Short throttle between apexes if the car needs settling; pick a clean 5B turn-in. The drop after 5B apex unloads the rear—be ready to catch rotation on exit.
Exit priority: Traction onto Andretti Straightaway defines every pass into The Esses.
Invalidation risk: High on aggressive kerb cuts at 5B and wide exit onto runoff.
Common mistake: Carrying too much speed into 5A; panic lift at the crest; front-engine cars attacking 5B kerb too hard.
Turns 6–7 – Andretti Straightaway
Type: Full-throttle kinks on the back straight. Gear: 5th–6th. Passing: Slipstream zone—plan moves before Turn 8 braking.
Technique: Minimal steering; let the car breathe over the crest before Turn 8 braking. Use mirrors and relative—closing speeds are high.
Line: Stay off the marbles; position left or right for your chosen Turn 8 approach (single vs double apex).
Invalidation risk: Low if you stay on asphalt.
Common mistake: Late defensive weave that forces both cars off-line into Turn 8; drafting too close without a Turn 8 plan.
Turn 8 – The Esses (entry)
Type: Fast right—second-quickest corner on the lap. Gear: 4th–5th. Passing: Possible with a later-braking double-apex line—high risk.
Braking: Crest the hill, let the car settle, then brake—high HP cars need visual markers; rear can wiggle in the zone but incidents are rare if you slow enough.
Line options: Single apex: wide entry, decreasing radius, touch right kerb for Turn 9. Double apex: later diagonal brake toward right kerb—can shorten the corner but demands precision.
Invalidation risk: Moderate—running out of room between 8 and 9 when entry speed is too high.
Common mistake: Over-slowing initially on single-apex line; carrying too much speed and running left mid-corner with no recovery room.
Turn 9 – The Esses (exit)
Type: Quick left linking to White's Corner. Gear: 3rd–4th. Passing: Complete a Turn 8 move if you held inside line—otherwise set up for Turn 10.
Technique: Brake, downshift, turn, back on throttle—apex near the end of left kerbing. Some drivers treat this as a mini-straight: brief throttle between 8 and 9 to maximise entry speed.
Exit priority: Get left early for White's Corner—full track-out is limited because Turn 10 arrives immediately.
Invalidation risk: Moderate on inside cuts when rushing to beat a car to Turn 10.
Common mistake: Tracking out too far right and missing the Turn 10 braking marker; defending when already beaten into Turn 10.
Turn 10 – White's Corner
Type: Final right onto the front straight. Gear: 3rd–5th (class-dependent). Passing: Decisive zone if alongside out of Turn 9—otherwise defend early on the straight.
Braking / throttle: Light brake from the left; turn in right, clip apex kerb, pick up throttle early. Use exit kerb smoothly—the outside pavement rewards a wide legal arc.
Exit: Defines tow and top speed for the run to Turn 1—any slide costs the entire next lap.
Invalidation risk: Running wide on exit—frequent quali invalid.
Common mistake: Late throttle that spins the rear; squeezing a faster car already alongside onto the straight.
Pit entry and exit
Pit entry: At the end of Turn 1 on the inside—peel off early enough that you do not cut across cars still powering through the corner. Signal intent before the pit commit point.
Pit exit: Merges at Turn 1—traffic may be on the gas through the corner on a quali lap. Blend predictably; check mirrors before contesting the front straight.

Alternative Layouts
iRacing ships only the Grand Prix road course for Canadian Tire Motorsport Park—there is no East, West, or short club variant in the session dropdown. The real venue includes a half-mile oval and driver-development facilities on site, but those layouts are not available as separate iRacing configurations; this guide covers the full 3.957 km Grand Prix lap only.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Beginner: Lifting at the Clayton crest; early apex at Quebec; full lift through Turn 4 when the car would carry; braking too late for Moss on lap one; attacking Turn 8 without a practiced marker.
Intermediate: Chasing quali lines in race traffic; adding steering in Turn 4 when the rear steps; fighting prototypes into Moss instead of conceding once; single-apex Turn 8 with too much entry speed.
Fixes: Build repeatable brake markers before chasing tenths. Practice invalidation-safe lines for series with strict limits. Do full-stint runs—tyre drop changes Clayton and Moss more than Andretti Straightaway.
Overtaking and Defending
Best zones: Turn 1 on lap one with overlap; Clayton Corner if inside from Turn 1; Moss Corner (5B) for classic braking contests; Turn 8 with a later double-apex line when overlap is genuine; White's Corner if fully alongside from Turn 9.
High-risk moves: Three-wide into Turn 1; alongside through Turn 4; late prototypes into Moss when GTs brake earlier; squeezing at White's when the attack is already complete.
Defending: Break the tow before Andretti Straightaway braking if rules allow; one-move principles—choose inside or outside early for Moss. At White's, defend the line that preserves exit onto the front straight; avoid reactive second moves under braking.
Racecraft and Incident Avoidance
Crash magnets: Turn 1 lap 1 pileups; Clayton crest stack when drivers lift; Moss rear-ends when the lead car brakes early; Turn 8–9 when entry speed is too high; White's when someone lifts unexpectedly onto the straight.
Lap 1: Survive Turn 1 and Clayton—brake a touch early, leave a gap, do not pin to the apex mid-pack. Let the field stretch before attacking through Turn 4.
Survival strategy: In official races, finishing beats hero points—give one position to avoid a 1x that becomes a spin. After incidents, reset rhythm before pushing—cold tyres + Turn 4 = tow truck.
Traffic Management Tips
Faster class: Plan passes on Andretti Straightaway; use relative and radar. Brake earlier behind GTs at Moss; do not fill their mirror in the braking zone—go early or wait for the next straight.
Slower class: Signal with line choice early on the back straight; do not park in the middle of the Turn 8 braking zone. At Moss, hold a predictable line—erratic defending causes prototypes to guess wrong.
When to back out: If you are not fully alongside before turn-in at Clayton, Moss, or White's Corner, lift and slot in. Half moves here generate protests and DNFs.
Setup Advice
Aero: Medium downforce helps Turn 4 and The Esses without costing too much on Andretti Straightaway—find the lowest wing that still rotates at Moss without excessive mid-corner understeer at Quebec.
Brake bias: Enough forward bite for Moss and Turn 8; if rears lock into White's, fix release technique before moving bias dramatically rearward. Re-check after fuel burn.
Traction / diff: Moss and White's exits highlight diff settings—test on 15–20 lap runs, not three-lap quali simulations. Soften preload slightly if the rear snaps on cold tyres at 5B.
Kerbs: CTMP kerbs can unsettle the platform—especially Clayton, Moss 5B, and White's. If the car hops, soften slow-speed damping or raise ride height slightly; repeatability beats one hero lap that breaks traction two laps later.
Tyre Management
Wear hotspots: Front-left and rears work through loaded rights (Turn 1, Clayton, Quebec, Moss) and lateral loads in The Esses. Left-side tyres also see load through Turn 4 and Turn 8–9.
Overheating: Aggressive Moss entries spike front temps; rear overheating follows traction abuse out of Moss and White's if you slide.
Consistency: Smooth steering beats stabbing—especially Clayton crest and Turn 4. Do not lift in Turn 4 purely to save tyres if it costs more time than a slightly shorter stint.
Fuel: Andretti Straightaway increases per-lap consumption at high speed—plan stints in the garage. Save fuel with upshifts where safe; avoid sacrificing White's exit for tiny fuel gains.
Qualifying vs Race Pace
Qualifying: One clean lap with max attack in Turn 4 and Turn 8; kiss kerbs without crossing limits. Traffic plan: out lap space for Andretti Straightaway so you are not on cold rubber in dirty air through The Esses.
Race: Trade last tenth at Moss for legal exits and tyre life. Defensive lines may widen your arc into Turn 8—accept it. After incidents or pit cycles, spend a lap resetting inputs before leaning on Turn 4 again.
Risk vs consistency: CTMP rewards repeated 99% laps more than alternating purples with spins. In iRacing officials, incidents hurt SR and iRating more than one lost position at Moss.
Final Tips
- Biggest time gain: Turn 4 commitment and Turn 8 entry speed—free time through the fastest sectors on the lap.
- Biggest race saver: Legal, early decisions at Clayton Corner and Moss Corner—avoid 1x and trips to the barrier.
- Hardest section: Clayton crest under pressure or cold tyres, and Moss 5B exit when the rear is soft late in a stint.
- Best overtaking zone: Moss Corner (5B) for fair fights; Turn 1 on lap one when overlap is genuine.
