Endurance racing is a relay, not a sprint. Stint planning—fuel, tyres, driver rotations—determines results. Use practice data and strategy tools to optimise pit windows and driver assignments.

Stint Fundamentals

Typical stint lengths: 45–60 minutes for LMP2/GT3/GT4 depending on fuel capacity and consumption. Plan rest cycles: roughly 2 hours off for every hour driven—one for data review, one for rest.

Pre-Race Planning

  • Run full fuel stints in practice to measure consumption and tyre wear
  • Record lap averages, fuel burn per stint, and tyre degradation
  • Use strategy tools (iRacePlan, Smart Race Engineer) to model pit windows
  • Build a shared spreadsheet for the team with driver stints and targets

Team Roles

  • Spotter/Strategist: Track pit timing, fuel data, and gaps
  • Lead Engineer: Monitor telemetry, fuel targets, and stint length
  • Drivers: Complete full fuel stint simulations in practice for consistency

Safety Car & FCY

Safety cars change everything. Strategy tools can recalculate on the fly. Have a plan for early, mid, and late FCY—when to pit, when to stay out.

Tip: Each driver should do at least one full fuel stint in practice. Comfort and consistency matter more than raw pace in endurance.
