Car setup affects grip, balance, and tyre wear. For beginners, the default baseline is usually sufficient. As you improve, understanding a few key parameters will help you tune the car to your driving style and the track.

Start with the Baseline

Learn the car and track with the default setup first. Only change one thing at a time so you can isolate the effect. Document what you change and how the car responds.

Tyre Pressure

One of the most impactful adjustments. Tyre pressure affects grip, wear, and how the car behaves over kerbs and bumps.

  • Higher pressure – Stiffer tyre, smaller contact patch, more responsive, higher temps. Can reduce grip if too high
  • Lower pressure – Softer tyre, larger contact patch, more traction under acceleration, lower temps. Can feel sluggish if too low

Many setups aim for a target hot pressure (e.g. 27–28 psi). Adjust cold pressure so that after a few laps, the tyres reach the target. Check telemetry or the in-car display for tyre temps if available.

Camber

Camber is the vertical inclination of the tyre. Zero camber means the tyre is perpendicular to the road. Negative camber (tops of tyres pointing inward) is common on road cars.

  • In corners, load shifts to the outside tyres. Negative camber helps distribute that load across the contact patch, maximising grip when you need it most
  • Too much negative camber can hurt straight-line braking and acceleration

Toe

Toe is the angle of the tyres when viewed from above. Toe-in: fronts point toward each other. Toe-out: fronts point away. Camber and toe effects are coupled—adjust together with care.

  • Toe-in on the rear can increase stability
  • Toe-out on the front can improve turn-in response
Tip: Use telemetry to verify changes. If you adjust tyre pressure, run laps before and after and compare lap times and consistency. One change at a time.
