Race strategy is about pace, tyres, and pits. Sprint races are flat-out; longer races require managing wear and fuel. Knowing when to push and when to conserve separates consistent finishers from those who fade or crash.

Pace Management

  • Sprint races (under 30 min) – Push from the start. Tyres and fuel rarely limit you
  • Medium races (30–60 min) – Balance pace and tyre wear. Smooth inputs preserve grip
  • Endurance (1 hr+) – See our Stint Strategy and Fuel Saving guides

Tyre Wear

Aggressive driving—locking brakes, sliding, kerb strikes—degrades tyres. Smooth inputs extend grip. In longer races, the driver who preserves tyres often gains at the end. Monitor wear in the F9 black box if available; otherwise, feel the car and back off if grip drops.

Pit Strategy

In races with mandatory pits, plan your stop. Under caution, pitting early or late can gain positions. In green-flag races, pit when you have a gap—avoid pitting into traffic. Fuel and tyres: know whether you need both or just fuel. Some series require tyres; others do not.

When to Push

  • Lap 1 – Survive. Do not overdrive. Positions come later
  • Mid-race – Push when you have clear track. Back off in traffic to avoid incidents
  • Last laps – If tyres are good, push for the finish. If they are gone, defend and minimise mistakes

Adapting

Strategy changes with the race. A rival's mistake, a caution, or a puncture can change everything. Stay flexible. Use the F3 relative to track gaps. If you cannot catch the car ahead, conserve and protect position from behind.

Tip: Finishing the race is the first goal. A clean finish beats a DNF from pushing too hard.
