iRacing LMP2 Dallara P217 Guide
The Dallara P217 is iRacing's LMP2 prototype. With a 600hp Gibson V8, 930kg weight, and high downforce, it sits between GT3 and GTP in multi-class racing. It requires a B licence and excels in IMSA and endurance series.
Car Characteristics
- Engine: Gibson GK-428 V8, 600hp. Strong straight-line performance
- Downforce: Comparable to single-seaters. Strong cornering grip
- Assists: Traction control allowed (unlike formula cars). Middle ground between GT and open wheel
Series
- LMP2 Challenge – Fixed – Fixed setup, 20-minute races, aggressive tyre management
- IMSA iRacing Series – Multi-class with GTP and GT3, 45 minutes. Traffic management essential
- IMSA Endurance Series – Longer multi-class events with GTP, LMP2, and GT3
- Global Endurance Tour – Team endurance racing
Traffic Management
In IMSA you lap GT3s constantly and are lapped by GTPs. Plan passes on straights and wide corners. Avoid diving into tight sections where GTs cannot yield. See our Multi-Class Racing Guide for traffic awareness and blue flag info.
Aero Platform
The P217 generates significant downforce. Ride height and aero balance affect stability under braking and rotation in slow corners. Baseline setups are a good starting point; adjust for understeer or oversteer based on track and driving style.
Endurance Pacing
In longer races, tyre wear matters. Smooth inputs preserve tyres. Avoid locking brakes and aggressive kerb use. Pace yourself in traffic—losing a few tenths to pass cleanly beats a 4x and damaged car.
