GT4 is one of the best categories for developing racecraft before moving into GT3 and prototypes. Cars have ABS, less aero dependence than GT3, and enough power to punish poor exits. The class rewards consistency, traffic awareness, and strong mechanical grip setup choices.

Where GT4 Fits in iRacing

  • Licence levels: primarily D and C road.
  • Common series: GT4 Falken Tyre Challenge, Falken Tyre Sports Car Challenge, IMSA Sportscar Endurance.
  • Race profile: close packs, heavy braking zones, and frequent side-by-side exits.

Who This Guide Is For

  • Drivers stepping up from rookie cars into GT racing.
  • Racers preparing for GT3 without skipping fundamentals.
  • League and endurance drivers prioritising clean racecraft.

Core Driving Priorities

Brake release and rotation

GT4 pace comes from how well you release brake pressure into turn-in. Too abrupt and you understeer; too long and you over-slow. Build confidence by repeating the same release pattern over long runs.

Exit quality over hero entries

A clean exit beats a risky late-brake move in most GT4 races. Prioritise getting power down early and reducing wheelspin over forcing minimum entry distance.

Setup and Session Management

  • Use ABS settings to control lockups over kerbs and trail-brake phases.
  • Stabilise rear traction first (especially on corner exit) before chasing front-end rotation.
  • Test both short-run and stint pace; GT4 rewards repeatability more than peak lap alone.

Common Mistakes

  • Over-attacking entry and sacrificing exit speed every lap.
  • Changing setup before fixing repeatable driving errors.
  • Driving qualifying pace on lap one in heavy traffic.

Tip: If you are deciding between GT4 and GT3, master GT4 first. Clean inputs and racecraft transfer directly and make GT3 progression much easier.
