The Ford Mustang FR500S is a D-licence V8 spec racer in iRacing. It runs in the Mustang Skip Barber Challenge (Fixed). More power than the MX-5 or GR86, with rear-wheel drive and no aero, it teaches car control and throttle discipline.

Car Characteristics

  • Engine: V8. Strong torque and power for the class
  • Drive: Rear-wheel drive. Throttle application is critical on exit
  • Weight: Heavier than MX-5 or GR86. Momentum and braking stability matter
  • Setup: Fixed in Skip Barber series—focus on driving, not tuning

Series

Mustang Skip Barber Challenge (Fixed) offers short races with equal equipment. A solid step up from rookies for drivers who want more power before moving to GT4 or LMP3.

Driving Tips

  • Throttle: Smooth application on exit. The V8 can break traction easily
  • Braking: Brake in a straight line. Weight transfer affects balance under braking
  • Rotation: Use trail braking to help rotation; avoid stabbing the throttle mid-corner
Tip: The FR500S rewards patience. Let the car settle before adding power, and use the full width of the track on exit.
