iRacing Car Setup Explained

Beyond tyre pressure, camber, and toe, car setup includes suspension (springs, dampers, anti-roll bars), aero (ride height, wing angles), and differential. Each affects balance, rotation, and stability.

Suspension

Springs control how the car responds to bumps and load transfer. Stiffer springs reduce body roll but can hurt mechanical grip. Dampers control the rate of spring compression and rebound. Anti-roll bars affect how much the car rolls in corners—stiffer front = more understeer, stiffer rear = more oversteer.

Aero (Downforce Cars)

Ride height affects downforce and balance. Lower = more downforce but risk of bottoming. Front/rear wing balance shifts grip between axles. Rake (front lower than rear) can increase rear grip.

Differential

Preload and ramp angles control how torque is distributed between driven wheels. Affects traction on exit and rotation under power. See our Differential Guide for details.
