iRacing BMW M2 CS Racing Guide
The BMW M2 CS Racing is a free rookie car that bridges production cars and GT racing. With 365 hp, rear-wheel drive, and a forgiving ABS system, it's a step up from the MX-5 while still accessible to rookies.
Car Characteristics
- Engine: 3.0L inline-6, 365 hp. More power than the MX-5
- Weight: ~1,545 kg (3,405 lbs). Heavier than the MX-5
- Drive: Rear-wheel drive. Requires smooth throttle to manage oversteer
- Assists: BMW M Motorsport ABS and stability control. Helps but does not replace good technique
Why Start Here
The M2 CS introduces GT-style power and weight transfer. It teaches you to manage rear grip, brake in a straight line, and turn in with patience. If you aim for GT4 or GT3 later, this car builds the right habits.
Driving Tips
- Oversteer: Smooth steering inputs. Aggressive corrections can snap the rear
- Braking: Slow down before turning in. Weight transfer is key—brake in a straight line
- Throttle: Smooth application on exit. Early throttle can unsettle the rear
- Turn-in: Good front-end grip. Allow the car to settle before adding throttle
Series
The BMW M2 Cup runs fixed setups. Races are frequent and accessible. Ideal for rookies moving from the MX-5 or those who prefer a heavier, more powerful car from the start.
Progression Path
Once comfortable, move to GT3 or GT4 (when available) for more downforce and power. See our Car Guides for all options. The M2 CS habits—smooth inputs, weight transfer awareness—apply directly.
